What is coconut cream?

Coconut cream is often confused with coconut milk, but the difference between the two is a lot like the difference between dairy milk and cream. They are both made by grating coconut flesh and working it with water, but coconut cream has a higher fat content, making it thicker, richer in flavour and more luxurious.

What is coconut cream used for?

Coconut cream is a common staple in Asian cooking and works especially well in recipes like curries and sauces for bulk food manufacturing.

More recently, coconut cream has become very popular in vegan and dairy free dishes/desserts, to add flavour and richness. From sauces and ready meals to tortes, cakes, ice creams and custards, coconut cream is a staple ingredient in vegan cooking.

Is coconut cream healthy?

Here at Kiril Mischeff we strive to be transparent with nutritional values. Due to the high levels of saturated fat (and indeed higher fat content than coconut milk), coconut cream cannot quite be described as a health product… however, it is fine to enjoy as part of a balanced diet!

The high fat content is simply down to the fact that the natural coconut itself is high in fat, and coconut cream is not as diluted as coconut milk. However, unlike animal based saturated fats, coconut cream is cholesterol free and is also rich in a significant number of nutrients.
