How is gooseberry concentrate made?
Initially juiced in the same manner as an NFC gooseberry juice, gooseberry concentrate is then heated to evaporate off a proportion of the fruit’s water content. This leaves a condensed solution, six times the strength of a regular juice.
This condensed gooseberry concentrate can then be transported easily in larger quantities, before the water is re-added at the manufacturer’s end to bring it back to single-strength state.
Despite the extra processing compared to NFC juice, gooseberry concentrate retains all of the gooseberry’s fabulous flavour, colour and much of its nutritional goodness too – making it a great ingredient for juices, smoothies and a range of food products.

What is the difference between concentrate and not from concentrate gooseberry juice?
Gooseberry juice concentrate is made by pressing fresh gooseberries and juicing the pulp. This is then heated, so the liquid evaporates. This leaves less water, but all the flavour of the berries in a concentrated liquid. The water can then simply be readded during production of your end product.
On the other hand, NFC juices are produced without any water removal and less heating, resulting in a less processed juice. They normally have a shorter shelf life and take up more volume in terms of storage.
It is a common misconception that concentrate juice is less healthy than NFC juice, but the truth is that they both manage to retain similar nutritional values. NFC juice is just slightly less processed, which can often command a higher price point for ‘natural’ health-conscious products.
