How is grapefruit concentrate made?

The flesh of the grapefruit is juiced, then heated to evaporate a significant proportion of the liquid. This leaves a thick, condensed solution around six times the strength of NFC grapefruit juice.

The concentrate can be used in this state for a variety of applications, or the water can be re-added at the final processing point to bring it back to a juice.

Despite the additional processing, the juice still maintains delicious fresh flavour, and much of the nutritional goodness found in the raw grapefruit.

What is the difference between concentrate and not from concentrate grapefruit juice?

Our grapefruit juice concentrate is made at 11° Brix with freshly picked grapefruits from the highest quality suppliers in Texas, USA. These grapefruits are then pressed and juiced. This juice is then heated, so that the water evaporates leaving all the sweet, citrussy flavour behind. This results in a highly concentrated solution, which is much stronger than a regular juice and has the potential for a longer shelf life.

On the other hand, NFC juices are produced without any water removal and less heating, resulting in a less processed juice. They normally have a shorter shelf life and take up more volume in terms of storage. It is a common misconception that concentrate juice is less healthy than NFC juice, but the truth is that they both manage to retain similar nutritional values. NFC juice is just slightly less processed.

What is grapefruit juice good for?

As one of the most popular juices in the world it is not surprising that grapefruit juice concentrate has a wide range of applications. It is the perfect addition to a variety of products in the food and drinks manufacturing industry, to add a subtle sharpness.

The juice is most commonly used in the manufacturing of juices and smoothies due to its distinct, citrussy flavour. However, it can also be used in gins, tonics, desserts, yoghurts, sorbets/ice creams, jellies, jams, bakery goods and so much more.

What are the health benefits of grapefruit juice?
