What are IQF strawberries?

IQF strawberries are quick-frozen at low temperatures soon after harvesting, to help preserve the fruit’s natural flavours, aromas and appearance.

This makes them ideal for food manufacturers requiring visible, identifiable strawberries (or pieces of strawberry) in their final product.

As well as IQF strawberries, our Scottish facility also processes a range of other British berries, and a further range of strawberry products including strawberry puree.

FAQs

What are IQF strawberries?

IQF stands for ‘Individually Quick Frozen’ which is a process that quickly freezes the strawberries to preserve their freshness. It is this rigorous freezing process that preserves all the nutrients and flavour of the fruit. They are first washed and then sorted into uniform sizes before being cut into small pieces and frozen. IQF strawberries can last up to eight months when stored properly in the freezer or six weeks in the fridge. The product from Kiril Mischeff is picked and processed at our own facility in Scotland as well as other origins.

What makes IQF strawberries different from regular strawberries?

Regular strawberries are not frozen and so they tend to spoil more quickly – whereas IQF strawberries last much longer due to the freezing process. They are also easier to store and transport. These strawberries can be used in a variety of ways, such as in smoothies, desserts, jams and jellies and milkshakes. They are also a great addition to breakfast cereals, yoghurt and salads – and can be used in a variety of baked goods such as muffins, cakes, pies and tarts. Essentially, IQF strawberries can be used in recipes that call for fresh strawberries.

What nutritional benefits do IQF strawberries have?

IQF strawberries are rich in vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, potassium, calcium and magnesium. They also contain dietary fibre which can help promote digestion. IQF strawberries are a great source of antioxidants which can help reduce the risk of certain diseases.
